The History of Cleves

Cleves was founded and plotted by President William Henry Harrison and named after John Cleves Symmes.  It was Symmes who had originally purchased the land, along with most of Hamilton, Butler, and Warren Counties, in the famous "Symmes Purchase" in 1788.  Harrison was his son in law, and founded Cleves in 1818, 5 years after Symmes death.
